Effective date: January 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Handicap Parking Tag Check application ("App"), developed by the team behind CheckTav.co.il, handles information when you use it. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not require registration, login, or the creation of an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifying information directly.
2. Camera Access & Photo Capture
The App includes two optional features that use your device's camera:
- License plate scanning: The camera is used to scan and recognize license plate numbers. All image processing is performed entirely on your device using on-device machine learning (Google ML Kit). No images or video from this feature are ever transmitted to any external server.
- Result photo stamping: After a check is completed, the App may capture a photo and stamp it with the check result (license plate number, permit status, and check date). The stamped image is saved locally on your device to the Pictures/CheckTav folder in your device's gallery. This feature can be disabled at any time from the App's Settings screen. No photos are transmitted to any external server.
Camera access is requested only when you choose to use the scanning or photo capture feature. You may deny the camera permission; the manual license plate entry feature will remain fully functional.
3. Voice Input
The App includes an optional voice input feature that allows you to speak a license plate number instead of typing it. When you use this feature:
- The App launches Google's built-in Speech Recognition dialog (Google Speech Recognition), which is a separate system service on your device.
- Audio is processed by Google's speech recognition service. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle voice data.
- The App itself does not record, store, or transmit audio data. Only the recognized text result is received by the App.
- If Google Speech Recognition is not available on your device, this feature will be unavailable and the manual text entry will remain functional.
4. License Plate Queries
When you submit a license plate number for checking, that number is sent to the Israeli Government Open Data API (data.gov.il) in order to retrieve the relevant permit information. This is a publicly accessible government service. We do not store, log, or otherwise retain the license plate numbers you query on any server operated by us.
5. Search History (Local Storage)
The App stores your search history — including license plate numbers, check results, and optionally the file path of a saved stamped photo — locally on your device only, using an on-device database. This data is never transmitted to our servers or to any third party. You can view, search, and permanently delete individual records or your entire search history at any time from within the App.
6. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. As part of serving ads, Google may collect and use certain data from your device, which may include:
- Your device's Android Advertising ID (GAID)
- General device information (model, OS version, language, time zone)
- Approximate location derived from IP address
- App interaction data used for ad measurement and performance
This data is collected and processed by Google under their own privacy policy. We do not have access to or control over this data. Please review Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Advertising Policies for full details.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device settings: on Android, go to Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID (Android 12+) or Opt out of Ads Personalization (earlier versions).
7. Google Play Services (Reviews & Updates)
The App uses the following Google Play services, which may involve communication with Google's servers:
- In-App Review: After you have used the App a number of times, you may be prompted to rate it through Google Play's native review dialog. This interaction is handled entirely by Google Play and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We do not collect or store your rating or review text.
- In-App Updates: The App checks for available updates via Google Play and may prompt you to download and install them while you continue using the App. This process is managed by Google Play and does not involve any data collection by us.
8. Permissions Used
The App requests the following device permissions:
- INTERNET — required to query the government database and load advertisements.
- CAMERA — optional; used for license plate scanning and photo capture.
- WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — required on Android 9 (API 28) and earlier to save stamped photos to the device gallery. Not requested on Android 10 and above.
- AD_ID — used by Google AdMob to serve and measure advertisements (Android 13+).
9. Children's Privacy
This App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data associated with use of this App. Since we do not operate servers that store your personal data, the primary security considerations relate to your device's own security and to Google's data practices (AdMob, Speech Recognition, Play Services), which are governed by Google's policies.
11. Third-Party Services
This App integrates the following third-party services:
- data.gov.il — Israeli Government Open Data Portal. License plate numbers are sent to this service to retrieve permit records.
- Google AdMob — Advertising platform. Google Privacy Policy
- Google ML Kit — On-device text recognition used for license plate scanning. All processing occurs locally; no data is sent to Google as part of this feature. ML Kit Terms
- Google Speech Recognition — System-level speech-to-text service used for voice input. Audio is processed by Google. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Play Core (In-App Review & Update) — Used to prompt users to rate the App and to deliver app updates. Google Privacy Policy
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
